A week ago Aimee from Twigg Studios and I held our first workshop together in London. As with all 'firsts', we were both a little nervous and both hoped we would get through the day without any major incidents, nobody would drop the cake, my brain wouldn't suddenly go blank when talking about camera settings... You know, the kind of stuff you have nightmares about before waking up in a sweat realising it was only a dream - albeit a bad one.
I had found us a fantastic (no, seriously, I love that place!) studio in Clapham and was hoping Aimee would also like it as she'd only seen a few pics of it before the actual day. Luckily she did and the whole setup couldn't have been more perfect. A kitchen/living area with a huge dining table for our lunch and a separate photo studio area where we had lots of space for the styling part of the workshop. We had made a plan for the day that would cover all the subjects we were looking to teach, but left enough time for a leisurely lunch where we would be able to chill, talk and everybody would get to know each other.
Aimee had baked a fabulous parsnip and lemon cake that we styled together whilst I had made some quiches and salads for our lunch, so we were definitely covered on the food side. We demonstrated the styling of the cake together, what to look out for and consider, and how to shoot it in the best possible light. We answered questions, played with props, gave feedback on vignettes and shots. And to top it all, we ate the cake! Just before our guests left, they each received a goodie bag that contained items from Nom Living, JING Tea and Lindt Chocolates. Everybody left smiling which is exactly what Aimee and I had hoped for...
If you're interested to take part in one of our workshops, then you can find all the details here. The next one will be held on Saturday 2nd July.
