So, apparently spring is finally upon us. Well, at least that's what the weather forecast is telling us. Sunshine, blue skies, trees in their most luscious greens and flowers of all colours are making their annual comeback. It's the pretty time of the year. I like it, though I'm often unsure whether it suits me. Does that even make sense? I mean, how can a season not suit me? What could be nicer than warm weather and nature in full bloom? Well, it's true, I do love spring in itself, but if you've ever felt like you've ended up at the wrong party wearing the wrong outfit, then you might have an idea of how spring and summer can sometimes make me feel.
I like a good party, but prefer small gatherings with close friends. Sunny and warm weather often feels like a big party with loud music, everybody shouting to be heard and wearing glitzy outfits while I turned up wearing linen and expecting a few close friends. It's that strange feeling of not quite fitting in when everybody else is obviously enjoying the party. So what I tend to do is to enjoy it, but on the fringes. In smaller, quieter doses. This translates into cooking light food, switching from red wine to rosé, indulging in fresh flowers and lunchtime walks with the sun on my face, and small gatherings with friends. It's for these gatherings that I like to lay a pretty, seasonal table and of course when I'm specifically asked to create such a table, I can't refuse.
