The importance of lipstick...

It's Monday morning again and like most people I can't deny that it doesn't exactly fill me with overwhelming joy. Even if this weekend hasn't been much of one as such since I spent yesterday working at TopDrawer, knowing it's Monday is still not great. Mondays are tough and they mean knowing that the time to do the things I really want will be restricted again for the next four days. That means it's time to think about ways to pick myself up.

It has been statistically (maybe even scientifically?) proven that when times are tough, lipstick sales go up. Yes, really! Every time there's a major crisis or economic troubles and sales generally go down, lipstick sales go up. I think the theory connected to these facts is based on this: people might not have the money for big splurges, but just one lipstick in a beautiful colour does help to make us feel pretty and to splash out on a little treat lifts the spirit. It makes complete sense to me. Even thought I mostly work from home, putting a bit of colour on my lips and making a little effort just for myself somehow makes me feel better, more professional and productive. It makes me look and feel like I have my life together - well, at least to an extent anyway...

So, it might be Monday morning which isn't great, but I will put on my favourite perfume (a lovely Christmas gift from Monsieur's mum), paint my lips in my favourite colour and be ready to face the world - and another long day at TopDrawer. It might not be hugely important in the great scheme of things, but maybe it just all goes back to the same thing: it's all about the little things...well, and lipstick.
