I'm not a portrait photographer. I know that and so does everybody else. You know, I believe that's what's generally known as 'self awareness'. So nobody was more surprised then when some time ago (and yes, I meant to post this ages ago!) lovely fellow stylist Jette Virdi contacted me asking whether I would be able to take some pictures of her at work and also on a day out together. I explained that I'm not really a "people photographer" (though I really do wish I was!), but I'd be more than happy to work with her. Well, we decided to go for it and met at Selfridges where she was styling the Clodagh McKenna pop up event. I took some photos there, not only of Jette, but of the whole event and we decided to meet up the next day for more pics.
We met up the next morning at Maison Bertaux where we started the day with coffee, a pain au chocolate and a chat. Perfect, right? The sun was out, it was warm but not too hot and it promised to be a beautiful London day. So we went for a wander to find some green, to take photos and hopefully get at least a few good images. I was just a little nervous as I didn't want to let Jette down and I really wanted to get some nice images. We found some green squares (it's not like there's a shortage in London) populated by people having their early lunch break and of course the flower shop at Liberty. We talked all along like old friends, stopped off for more coffee and had ramen for lunch at Bone Daddies before we finally had to part in the afternoon vowing to meet again soon. We had never met before, but hit it off straight away and became friends immediately. Sometimes life works like that and things are that simple. So now the plan is to collaborate on a workshop in the hopefully not-too-distant future.
And speaking of workshops, I've spent most of today (where has the time gone?!) packing my props and bags to hop into my car and onto the ferry tomorrow and make my way to Utrecht where I will hold my first workshop on Friday. I'm madly excited and can't wait to meet all the people who have signed up! I'm also nervous because I have certain expectations of myself and how I want things to go...we'll see. So, I won't be back here until some time next week, but if you do want to stay in touch you will be able to find me on Instagram, Twitter and Facebook…
In the meantime, I hope you like the pictures I took of Jette. One could say it was my first portrait session... See you next week xo
