(My) Home for Now...

My home in a book! It's around a year ago that Joanna Thornhill came to my home to photograph it for her book. At the time it felt strange to even contemplate that I would one day see details of it in print, flick through the pages of a hard cover book recognising my own place. Now that I actually have the book here, it doesn't feel any less surreal. It seems strange to look at what I know is my flat, but the way it looked a year ago rather than what it looks like now. Let's just say, things around here change on a very regular basis...

Joanna's book has a wonderful collection of images of - as the name might suggest - homes which are rented or belong to first-time buyers. They're not the spaces we will stay in forever, but they are our homes for now. This means making the most of them despite the fact that budgets might be tight and restrictions might be placed upon us by landlords. What the book shows in a great way is how some creativity and imagination can go a long way when it comes to interiors.

The book is divided into chapters which each cover one area like living spaces, kitchens, bedrooms and creative work spaces. It also offers tips and some tutorials for craft projects and a list of recommended shops. It's a great source of inspiration for anybody who is doing up a home with the knowledge that they might not stay there forever...

Home for Now is available from Cico Books and costs £16.99.
