Lunch in Central Park…

I'd like to take you on a little visit to New York. As it's suddenly hot and sunny here in London, I remembered the heat there on the day I spent with Anya wandering around Manhattan and through Central Park and stopping off for an urgently needed and well deserved rest at the Boat House. I also remembered that there are still so many images that I haven't shared yet, so, if you don't mind, I will do so over the next few weeks...

Anyway, back to this lovely spot. After the mad crowds on the streets, the heat and having sampled some of New York's street food during our stay, we were more than happy to sit down and enjoy a slightly more formal and quiet atmosphere. White table cloths and a view over the lake were the perfect backdrop for a little time out.

Despite the fact that the restaurant was full when we arrived, we managed to get a table and after a while it became emptier until, eventually, we found ourselves nearly alone. Well, it wasn't really the typical time for lunch I guess. That might also explain the burgers, maybe they were the last few left in the kitchen...

Despite all the beautiful surroundings and the professionally friendly service, I have to say that I've had better burgers from street vendors in Europe. There were two small burgers in dry buns with a slice of processed cheese on each - exciting, right? Exactly! Ok, so the fries were quite nice, the condiments made it a little better and washing it down with a couple of glasses of chilled wine helped. However, I wouldn't actually expect to need any such "help" when visiting a restaurant like this. So that part was a real letdown.

Having said that, it didn't dampen our spirits much (until we received the bill) and we were actually hungry enough to eat most of it and chilled enough to take it all in our stride and to just enjoy the quiet and lovely surroundings. Would I return? Yes, it was a lovely place. Would I order the burger again? Absolutely not! As they say, you live, you learn and that's all there's to it. Enjoying the moment and the company was more important than the quality of the food and that's something that I can happily think back to.
