Innovative design at Wilsonart...

This is probably not what you would expect to see here. Colourful, very contemporary and much cooler than anything in my home, these are the fab chairs created for the Wilsonart Student Chair Design Competition by young design talents. Wilsonart was one of the generous sponsors of BlogTourNY and have been committed to promoting up-and-coming designers for the past ten years. Visiting their exhibition space at the ICFF was not unlike being transported into a very cool, retro home with a futuristic twist. The chairs were unusual and the use of materials inspired. Designers taking part in this challenge weren't bound by restrictions of mass production, so they had the freedom to get as creative as they wanted - which they certainly did. That lovely lady sitting on her 'Infinite' chair is Jenny Trieu, the winner of the challenge.

My personal favourite though was the big "igloo" chair. Unfortunately I can't remember the actual name of it or the one of the designer, but as you can see, he was not shy about demonstrating it. And it clearly proved to be too much of a temptation for Linda and Anya who had fun trying this cosy pod. So, whilst I didn't manage to snap an obligatory bath tub pic during BlogTour, I think this one will do nicely as a substitute, don't you?
