Georgian Interiors Styling…

A while back (yes, time flies), I had the huge pleasure to work with Zoe Brewer on the styling and photography of parts of this fabulous house. A gorgeous property with high ceilings and enough storeys to keep you fit without ever having to join a gym, we worked on two bathrooms and two bedrooms. All the big changes had been made and the rooms renovated under Zoe's watchful eye, so all that was left to do on the day was to put in the details for our photo shoot.

The first bathroom was probably my favourite. The huge made to measure mirror made from beautifully aged glass offset the simplicity of the tile-less walls to a stunning effect and the very clean lines of the bath worked as a great contrast to the dark, old wood flooring. All that was needed were some lovely accessories that would work with the colour scheme, not overpower the overall look and add some texture.

It really was a joy to work in that place. It also got me thinking. Despite the fact that I'm not exactly unhappy with the place I live in, I do of course often think that it would be great to own my own house (again) and have more space. Space for a studio to work in, a large kitchen with space for all my pots, pans and utensils and where I could really cook in the way I want to, somewhere to keep all my books and magazines… This house was pretty amazing and there were certainly lots of aspects that I would love. However, it occurred to me that there might really be something like 'too much space' for me. I don't think I need or would want to live in a house with four storeys and more rooms than I'd know what to do with. I don't actually like the thought of having everything so far spaced out. I like my home to feel like a (spacious) cocoon and that simply doesn't work for me if there are two storeys between the living room and the bedroom. Ground floor and first floor - ok, maybe a converted attic for an unruly teenager - that's pretty much good enough for me. It has nothing to do with lack of ambition, just with the fact that I know what I like in my home. So, if I could pack all these lovely details into my own slightly smaller home, I'd be a very happy person…
