Dream home...

So, Monsieur and I have been talking a lot lately about buying a permanent home. This, of course, brings with it the fact and problem of London house prices. When I read that a shabby two-bed flat in Hackney now sells for around £300k, you can imagine what it is like to look for a family home when on a budget that is closer to that of the average family than the average tycoon...

However, I'm a dreamer and that means that despite any budget restrictions I'm out and about gawping at houses I would like to live in and imagine what that would be like. From the Georgian mansion (yes, please!!) to the run-down loft in a disused factory building (absolutely!), I can't help thinking what I would do if I owned the place. In my dreams I turn these houses into a home, make them exactly as I would like them to be (hey, what else is Pinterest for?) and furnish every room.

As this would be a long-term home, I would be able to look into the smallest details and make them a reality. So, there are the vintage iron radiators and a fireplace. Parquet flooring, mouldings and ceiling roses. A range cooker and a butler sink. For the first time ever, I would consider investing in something like black out blinds. I like summer, but don't like waking up at 5am with the sun which is currently the case in our rented home. So along with all the other things I looked into, I checked out VELUX for this and was quite amazed at the choice they have.

Of course my home would be light-flodded, so I would be able to have a couple of walls painted in dark colours - though I'd still mainly stick with my favourite light shades of grey and maybe one powder-pink wall. My furniture and accessories would finally have enough space to breathe and my office/studio would be an actual room rather than a corner...

Yes, these are all (or rather some of) the things I'm hoping for in our future home. I know they will take time and - just to be realistic for one tiny moment - money, but we'll get there eventually. The talks have started and that's a first step...

Out of curiosity, which of these London houses would you go for (if money was no object)?
