CitizenM in NYC...

I've finally made it back. More metaphorically (and here on the blog) than physically as I've actually been back from New York (#BlogTourNYC) for over a week now. However, since coming back I've been going through, checking and editing over a thousand images (no, I'm not planning on sharing every last one and many have been deleted), gone back to work, had a photo shoot, and tried to generally "get back into the swing of things" as they say. Now that I am back though, I shall tell you all about the fab week me and the other bloggers had in the Big Apple. I will, over the next weeks, tell you about what we've been up to, favourite design finds and food. I will introduce you to the fab sponsors we had and hopefully share some inspiring interiors.

So, to kick things off, let me introduce you to the hotel we stayed in. This is the CitizenM Hotel in New York, just round (literally) the corner from Times Square. To say this area is manic would be an understatement. Even for somebody who is used to living in a big city like London, this just seemed off the scale. Yes, it's mega touristy, loud, crazy and busy, but it's also a pretty good spot to be if you're looking to be right in the middle of the action. Central Park is in walking distance and so are many of the other big attractions like the Rockefeller Center, 5th Avenue, Madison Avenue, Grand Central station, the Flatiron Building and the big department stores etc... You get the idea.

The hotel itself was cool, quirky, comfortable and had very friendly staff. As somebody who likes shelves full of nicely displayed fun stuff, the lobby and courtyard were the perfect places to hang out and take in the displays. I didn't take any pictures of my room as they actually all look exactly the same in a compact, functional, but very comfortable way. I have to say that the bed was really cosy and I could have enjoyed even more if I hadn't been on London time and kept waking up at 4am every morning. Everything in the room is controlled by a tablet which means the lighting can be adjusted according to mood, there is music on offer and a tv right over the bed. The best thing though has to be to roof terrace on the 21st floor. Looking down W50th Street towards 5th Avenue, you have a clear view of the Radio City Music hall and all the madness around it. Looking into the other direction is the Hudson River which you can just about see between all the buildings in the way… Yes, the hotel is perfect if you don't know the city, want to be right in the middle of it and are looking to cram as much action into a few days as possible. The "IT suite" is really handy for checking in on your flight home online and the service is friendly and casual. The only thing they really need to work on is their Cosmopolitan recipe…
