Cinnamon & Chai...

Lately I feel a different mood taking over. Something lighter, a little easier, happier. To most people, Autumn means darkness and gloom. I guess where the darkness is concerned it's the same for me, but I feel less of the gloom and actively embrace the early evenings.

Summer has never held a huge amount of appeal for me and seeing the leaves turn means I can get my woolly socks and jumpers back out which is just as I like it. I can embrace the sun setting early and the time spent quietly at home. Writing and photo editing work turns into a cosy affair with tea and a woolly blanket. Lately though we've also had some incredibly beautiful and sunny days, the kind that make all the colourful leaves glow and which I suspect play a role in how I'm feeling. Despite my workload (nobody told me I'd be taking less holiday as a freelancer than I did when employed!) and the occasional setback, I have a deep feeling of things falling into place and feeling easier and lighter. I take small setbacks (like a cancelled job, bummer!), which a while back would have plunged me into a confidence crisis, in my stride safe in the knowledge that something else will come along. I have a kind of trust in the universe: you know, one door closes, another one opens. For somebody who is generally more fearful, this is a feeling of complete calmness and bliss. I know it won't last as I also unfortunately know all too well how sudden things can turn and how I have seemingly no control over how much they knock me, but for now I'm going with it and pour that feeling into everything I do, including my images. The mood is lighter and a little more playful. Childhood treats like toffee apples (or candied apples) with cinnamon (find my recipe here) fit right in with their playfulness and hot Chai tea in my Jing Tea Master Set keeps me warm and fills the room with the scent of spices. Cinnamon and Chai, sunshine and glowing leaves, Autumn is here and it's looking like a good one...
