Chez Moi in December...

Every year at the beginning of December I think I'm on top of things, then - generally by the end of the first week - I start to panic at the sheer amount of small things that I need to organise, do, buy, wrap, take to the postoffice to send, cook... It's not even that I'm buying tons of stuff or cooking for a huge extended family. I know, last week I said that things are calming down a bit, this week I feel like things are just going crazy.

It's not that I actually have huge things to take care of, but it's all the small things that make my to-do list grow longer by the day. It's strange really, when faced with a few big jobs I tend to simply concentrate and get them done. When faced with seemingly a million small things to do I seem to go into "rabbit in the headlights" mode and freeze. The sum of all these small tasks that seem to make my head spin, I start one task, remember that something else is more pressing before starting on yet something else. I really need to get this work/Christmas balance thing sorted. Somehow. I guess I should be grateful that this madness only lasts for around 3 weeks before I can say "I've done everything I can, now it's time to chill and enjoy the festive days".

To combat all the madness (and I'm aware that it's not actually THAT crazy and that I'm possibly making a bit of a mountain out of a molehill here) I then retreat to my home and light some candles. Since it's getting dark around 4pm, I have the perfect excuse to spend extended evenings by candlelight. I haven't gone crazy with any Christmas decorations as I won't be at home for the main event. Besides, even if I was at home, our tree never goes up before Christmas eve. A few touches that are important to me like fairly lights, candles, some green sprigs, a simple wreath. It's mainly about being cosy and just a little festive rather than going mad on the decorations. This is what Chez Moi looks like in December. Well, a part of it anyway. I won't show you the crazy corner with all the things I need to take to the postoffice...
