My home changes and evolves with the seasons, the time of the year, my mood. I guess, if you're regular readers here, you already knew that and have been witness to quite a few of those changes.
I will add or take away details. I exchange accessories to fit the season, the weather and the length of the day. Out go the summery throws, in come the woolly blankets. A miniature Christmas tree replaces the usual white orchids or peonies and adds a festive yet natural touch. I don't like to completely overload the place, but still want a cosy feel. A few patterns help and as long as I don't go overboard with colours (which wouldn't really be me anyway), the overall feel remains calm.
As we're approaching the shortest day of the year, having candles and other small light sources dotted around are important to me. I need the cosy atmosphere they create and the warm light they give off. It is the part I like about the grey days and long nights.
Yes, our Christmas decorations are relatively low key for now. I don't tend to decorate everything at once. I add small touches over time until everything is finally in place on Christmas eve. I like to slowly create a festive feel, not rushing things and enjoying the process.
