Autumn Yellows...

You all know me by now, I'm not exactly 'little Miss sunshine' when it comes to using colours. I don't live in a rainbow coloured home. My walls are white and light grey, my furniture ranges from black and grey to natural woods and most of my wardrobe consists of greys, black, dark blue with the odd bit of green or (shock, horror!) coral thrown in. I like my muted neutrals and god knows what possessed me to buy some pastel pots and pans for my kitchen last year (all since stashed out of view) - I'll put it down to momentary lapse in judgement due to a lack of summer sunshine in this country.  Though, admittedly, I still like my pink camera bag which contrasts nicely with my grey wardrobe...

Anyway, swiftly moving on from that and back to my more natural habitat of neutrals. You see, even for somebody like me, there comes the occasional point when I quite fancy a little bit of colour. But it has to be the right kind of colour, not just any which has been plucked out from a box of crayons. No. It has to fit my mood and the season. And I was in the mood for yellow. Mind, not the sunshine kind of yellow - that'd be totally out of character, right? No, more of a slightly darker yellow, warm and with a hint of ocre.

So I decided to dye some cotton fabric for napkins. Frayed edges and a dip-dye effect were what I wanted which I thought would suit the season, mood and my home nicely and I'm happy to say that it worked out exactly as planned - which isn't always the case. If you'd like to find out how to make these, then hop over here where you'll find my complete tutorial.
