Yesterday has been grey, rainy and fairly dark. What might seem like a downer to many people was met with a sigh of relief by myself. I've been longing for the dark Autumn days, for grey skies, rain and wet leaves. I know it might sound strange to be glad to see the bright blue skies go, but at least for a little while I really want to feel like it's actually October. I like blue skies, but want to see and feel the seasons as they should be and Spring like temperatures with bright blue skies just seem so wrong. I love this time of the year when I can hear the wind outside bringing with it the promise of long evenings and cups of hot chocolate, woolly socks and candle light.
Autumn also plays into my natural style with its colours and textures. It's just so interesting and so full of detail that I want to gather it all up and surround myself with everything nature has to offer. I want to do what I love: collect and display. And I want to cook and enjoy meals with people at a nice table. A table that reflects Autumn.
This is my idea of an autumnal table. Full of textures, references to the time of the year, muted but sumptuous colours and some homemade touches like my dyed napkins. The kind of setting that makes you look forward to stepping inside from the rain and enjoy a glass of red wine.
